Rescue Diver

Scuba Rescue Diver (SRD) is one of our most popular specialties. In SRD you will learn how to manage risks and effectively handle limited in-water problems and diving emergencies, how to assist and transport divers, and how to perform surface rescues and rescues from depth involving both boat and shore based skin and scuba divers.

CPR and First Aid certifications are required to complete this course. Your Scuba Rescue Diver training moves you on your pathway to becoming a NAUI Leader: Skin Diving Instructor, Assistant Instructor, Divemaster, or Instructor.

What You Will Learn

The course is a continuing education certification course for divers who wish to increase their understanding and enjoyment of diving. Emphasis is on student participation and practical application of knowledge in open water after a classroom discussion of subjects. This course is an excellent progression toward NAUI Leadership roles.

The SRD course is designed to equip certified divers with additional self-rescue skills and enable them to effectively intervene if their dive buddy experiences specific common problems. SRD graduates can perform assists and rescues in open water situations and environmental conditions similar to those in which they train. In addition, SRD participants learn rudiments of victim care and positioning, basic principles of first aid, common remedies for diving ailments and illnesses, as well as important information on the legal ramifications and requirements that govern the use of their rescue training in actual practice.

What’s Involved?

Diver’s World SRD is composed of two evenings: one in a class room setting and one in the pool. You will then need to demonstrate your skills as outlined below in the Training Dives.

How Do You Get Started?

As long as you are 15 years or older, in good physical condition, and are Scuba Diver certified you can enroll in a Diver’s World SRD course.

Required Equipment

Students shall furnish and be responsible for the care and maintenance of their own diving equipment. The instructor shall initially assist the student in checking all student gear to ensure that it is adequate and in proper working order.

What’s Provided

Your class fee will cover the costs of class, NAUI training materials, pool rental, your Instructors and Dive Master, and NAUI Rescue Scuba Diver certification.

Training Dives

You will have to demonstrate your basic scuba skills as well as various rescue skills learned in the SRD course in one open water session.

You will need to provide your own transportation, rental equipment, environmental suit and accommodations. Rental equipment is available through Diver’s World. Many of our local dives are within a couple of hours drive (or right here in our own Lake Erie or Presque Isle Bay) and classmates frequently arrange for travel together.

What’s Next?

Now that you are a NAUI certified Scuba Rescue Diver, you may want to pursue more leadership roles such as NAUI Divemaster. Bring your knowledge and interest together at Diver’s World and enroll in a leadership course.
