Nitrox Diver Specialty

Nitrox Diver Specialty

Want to extend your bottom time, lessen your surface interval, and maximize every dive? Become an Enriched Air Nitrox diver!

“Enriched Air Nitrox”, “EAN”, “EANx”  or simply “Nitrox” is a gas blend of nitrogen and oxygen that minimizes the effects of nitrogen in your system. You can learn all about Nitrox and become NAUI certified to use it at Diver’s World! Nitrox is one of our most popular specialty courses for good reason. You can typically stay down longer and get back in the water sooner.

After your exam, you can qualify for the Nitrox recognition card, or go ahead and complete two dives to receive your Nitrox Diver certification card.

What You Will Learn

In our NAUI certified course you will learn how to choose the proper blend of Nitrox for your dive profile, determine maximum depth limits for your Nitrox mixture, analyze your breathing mixture, and plan and safely execute each dive. Your instructor will teach you about the physiology of oxygen and nitrogen; advantages, disadvantages, and risks of nitrox; oxygen toxicity; hazards and precautions of handling oxygen; the concept of Equivalent Air Depth; use of EANx with standard Air Dive Tables; common gas mixing procedures; and more.

What’s Involved?

The NAUI Nitrox Specialty Course is a 4-hour course of class room instruction right here at Diver’s World followed by a written test. You will then demonstrate your new skills by completing two dives (see training dives below). As always, you can count on the staff of Diver’s World to make your learning experience interesting and fun!

How Do You Get Started?

As long as you are 12 years or older and in good physical condition, you can enroll in a Diver’s World Nitrox course. You will have to have an Open Water Scuba Diver C-Card as well as Advanced

Required Equipment

There is no pool time for the Nitrox class so will need to provide (or rent) all of your own equipment for your training dives. Diver’s World has rentals for all of you needs. If you are serious about Nitrox, you can have your tank converted here at Diver’s World.

If you haven’t already, this is the time to consider your redundancies. With your Nitrox cert, you will be able to spend more time at the bottom and you would hate to have that time cut short due to a dive light or SPG failure. Come in and talk with our experts about ensuring you get the most out of your new Nitrox certification.

What’s Provided

Your class fee will cover the costs of class, NAUI training materials, EAN32 and EAN36 dive tables, Nitrox rental tanks for your open water dives (if done through Diver’s World), your Instructors and Dive Master, and NAUI Nitrox Speciality Card.

Training Dives

You will need to complete two dives on Nitrox. Your Nitrox dives may be “piggybacked” on other training dives (Advanced, Master, etc.). This is the only class where you can get two training dives counted with one dive so you may want to consider doubling up classes. These dives may be scheduled through Diver’s World. Check our calendar for the latest!

You will need to provide your own transportation, rental equipment, environmental suit and accommodations. Rental equipment is available through Diver’s World. Many of our local dives are within a couple of hours drive (or right here in our own Lake Erie or Presque Isle Bay) and classmates frequently arrange for travel together.

 What’s Next?

Much like the NAUI motto “Dive Safety through Education”, Diver’s World believes in continuing education. Perhaps you want to expand your knowledge and skills with a Scuba Rescue course or take the next step up the Leadership ladder with Teaching Assistant. Obviously, if you have taken the Nitrox course you want to extend your bottom times and enjoy the scenery. Diver’s World offers several trips throughout the year that cater to the diver in you! Come join us on one of our Caribbean adventures or utilize your new Nitrox cert in North Carolina on a WWII wreck. In any case, Diver’s World can meet your zest for adventure.
