Your underwater adventure begins! Imagine watching the water level move up your mask as you slowly go below the surface - and continue to breathe! It's the most exciting feeling imaginable and yours when you become a NAUI Scuba Diver!

At Diver's World we have specifically designed a Teen Scuba course that caters to the needs and interests of teens seeking certification. Junior Scuba Diver is our entry level scuba certification course during which you will learn the fundamental knowledge and skills to safely scuba dive in open water. When you complete your class you and your buddy will be free to explore and discover the many wonders of the underwater world…and, you will have earned a NAUI Junior Scuba Diver certification card which will enable you to do open water diving with another certified adult.

Come on and dive in…a lifetime of fun, adventure, memories, experiences, and new friends awaits you!

What You Will Learn

Your instructor will teach you about dive equipment, the science of diving, responsible diving practices and the environment. You will also learn many skills in the water with practice time for your safety and comfort; and complete your training with a minimum of five open water dives.

What’s Involved?

Our Junior Scuba Diver course is held once per year and caters to teens and young adults. This is a great class for teens only where you will receive the individual attention you need. Our course is designed around a six week curriculum with each session including both pool time and classroom instruction. The class meets once per week with two 2 hours of in-class learning followed by two hours of pool skills development. At Diver’s World, we strive to make your scuba experience fun, relaxing and enjoyable so you will be in full scuba gear on your first day! After your class room and pool training, you will be required to pass a written exam as well as demonstrate your scuba skills competency in open water (see training dives below).

How Do You Get Started?

As long as you are 12 years or older and in good physical condition, you can enroll in a Diver’s World Junior Scuba Diver course.

What’s Provided

Your class fee will cover certification fees, instructional fees, pool fees, NAUI educational materials, log book and two days of open water instruction with your Instructor(s) and Dive Master. Your class also includes the use of Diver's World tanks, buoyancy compensation device (BCD), regulator with octopus, gauges, and dive computer for all pool sessions.

Required/Personal Equipment

You will only need to provide your own mask, fins, snorkel, dive boots/booties, gloves, and weight belt with 4lbs along with your bathing suit and towel. These are the basics that you will want as your own to take with you snorkeling and diving. For safety, you will need to provide your own dive knife for your open water dives. Diver’s World has a wide selection of all of these items to meet all of your needs. Get a $30 mesh stowaway backpack FREE with the purchase of a complete basic set-up at Diver's World! (limited time).

Training Dives

After your classroom and pool instruction you will be required to demonstrate your skills in open water. This generally requires two days/mornings of diving which can be accomplished through a local dive with Diver’s World. Alternatively, some of our students elect to do their open water dives on a vacation/dive trip and Diver’s World will provide a open water referral for you to complete your dives on your trip. Unlike some other dive centers, at Diver's World there is no separate instruction fee for your open water dives nor for a referral; these fees are included in your class tuition.

In either case, you will need to provide your own transportation, equipment (yours and/or rented), environmental suit and accommodations. Rental equipment is available through Diver’s World. Many of our local dives are within a couple of hours drive (or right here in our own Lake Erie or Presque Isle Bay) and classmates frequently arrange for travel together.

What's Next?

Until the age of fifteen, a Junior Scuba Diver must dive with a certified adult Scuba Diver. Now that you have become a certified diver, perhaps you want to further your training with an Advanced Scuba Diver or Rescue Scuba Diver course? Maybe you or someone you know was certified long ago and needs a refresher course. Perhaps you want to become a dive professional and go all the way to Divemaster or even become an Instructor! Whatever your scuba and skin diving needs, we can help you realize your dreams!
